Glaucoma Treatment Doylestown PAGlaucoma is an eye disease in which pressure inside the eye (intraocular pressure) rises, damaging the optic nerve and causing visual loss. In a healthy eye, fluid is produced in the ciliary body, enters the eye, and then drains through tiny passages called the trabecular meshwork. In people with glaucoma, these passages become blocked and intraocular pressure rises.

Glaucoma can be treated with medications such as pills or eye drops, laser surgery or traditional surgery. Our doctors have performed over one thousand Glaucoma Laser procedures.

Laser Treatments for Glaucoma

Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) or "Dropless" Glaucoma Therapy - For patients who would like to avoid starting a new drop or adding more, SLT is an excellent option.  The trabecular passages are opened to increase fluid drainage using a gentle, painless laser treatment. SLT is effective in about 75% of patients, and may be repeated, if needed.  It is done in the office and covered by most insurance plans.

Peripheral Laser Iridotomy (LPI) - For patients with narrow-angle glaucoma. A small hole is made in the iris to increase the angle between the iris and cornea and encourage fluid drainage.
